Poor People's Beliefs and the Dynamics of Clientelism

This paper proposes a formal model of clientelism that focuses primarily on the client’s side, setting clientelism against the possibility of supporting a redistributive platform and incorporating insights from social psychology theories.

Workshop on Islamists and Local Politics
 
We would like to thank Marc Lynch, Lauren Baker, and the rest of the team at the Project on Middle East Political Science for their assistance and participation during the Local Islamist Movements workshop held in Brastad, Sweden. The two-day workshop, jointly organized by GLD and POMEPS, was attended by policy-makers and academics from around the world.

Job Opening: Researcher

The Department of Political Science and the program of Governance and Local Development (GLD) are searching for one or more Researchers to fill a full-time 2-year position. As a researcher you are expected to conduct research with a focus on one or several of the main questions of the research program in collaboration with Professor Ellen Lust, as well as with other members of the GLD research team. The work may partly take place in the Middle East and/or North Africa or Sub-Saharan Africa.

You should have a PhD in political science, sociology, economics or related field when assuming the position. We are looking for researchers with prior research experience as closely connected as possible to the project research area.

Save-the date: Annual Policy Dialogue Day 2018
Our Annual Policy Dialogue Day will take place on Wednesday 30 May 2018, at the Wallenberg Conference Centrer in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The event is organized jointly by the V-Dem Institute, QoG - Quality of Government Institute, Governance and Local Development - GLD and UCDP (Uppsala Conflict Data Program).

The Policy Dialogue Day intends to bridge the often-occurring gap between analysis and practice and aims to shed light on questions relating to democracy and governance, conflicts and corruption. The conference will serve as a meeting platform for practitioners, policy-makers, and academics. Details on speakers and sessions will be announced in due course.
