Mariam Ben Slama is a research intern at GLD, who works with the GLD in the MENA project.

Mariam is from Tunisia, and she recently graduated from Sciences Po Paris with a Master's in International Security with a focus on Human Rights and Middle Eastern Studies. She worked on multiple research projects surrounding the region while always adopting a creative angle to analyze political and social phenomena. She published a few pieces, including one on humanitarian urbanism in Palestinian refugee camps and the colonial legacy of the police institution and social movements in Tunisia. Mariam is passionate about academia and wishes to pursue a PhD in the future. Within her research, she wishes to explore the relationship between the state apparatus and the population it rules by using bottom-up approaches and qualitative methodologies. Mariam believes that policymaking can only be effective if it takes into consideration vulnerable communities while considering institutional frameworks.
